Last hike

As we get closer to the end of our time here in Colorado, we kept the more challenging hike for the end.

7 miles, 1,700 ft elevation gain to 12,100ft (3,700m), 4 lakes, awesome views of the Breckenridge valley.

We got lost toward the end and got to do some climbing to get to the top lake but it wasn't too bad after all. Oliver was probably the most tired of us as we had to skip his morning nap. The video at the end gives a little bit more perspective of the surroundings.
We are headed back toward the Texas heat tomorrow. I will sure miss this beautiful country...

Hanging out with friends in Frisco

A good friend of mine from Austin and her husband bought a house in Frisco just 15 min down the road from us. It's been nice to have them in the area so we could get our socializing fix.
They happen to like to play, so we got to go on a bike ride around the lake, play in the park (Ben was soar from throwing the frisbee) and another day we rented a boat on the lake. Oliver had a total blast on the boat.

Not so beginner

To find hikes in the area, we look online. We found one website particularly helpful for the summit county we're staying at. They classify the hikes by beginner, intermediate and advanced. After staying up a little bit later than the usual because some friends came to visit the night before, we thought, let's do an easy hike today! So we went to the website and found a "beginner" hike. It was only 1.7 miles one way...
To our little legs and lungs used to the rather flat trails of Texas, the Colorado standards were a bit of a surprise. That trail was about 1.5 miles uphill, which took us well over an hour.
After huffing and puffing, I ended up taking over Oliver's load up top of the mountain for a well deserved picnic with a view. We thought we were in pretty good shape, but after getting our hearts going on a few of these "beginners" trails, we now realize that perhaps we need to do a little bit more cardio... :)

Frisco, CO

Frisco, CO is a cute little town about 10miles from Breckenridge, sitting on a lake. Kind of cool to see sail boats at 9,000 ft (3,000m).

Blue Lakes Road

A few days ago, a little bit tired from all the hiking, we drove up this road called Blue Lakes Road, right up the road from the town we live in. We had no idea what to expect, we just liked the name of it.
Because it was early in the morning, quiet and still, animals were out and about. We hiked around the 2 lakes that were there and got see some kind of ferret, bunch of marmots, deer and mountain goats.

One year old!

Happy birthday! Joyeux Anniversaire Oliver!
We had a nice French style dinner with the classic bottle of Champagne that has been present for each of month of Oliver's life.
I feel it was more of a celebration for us, as Oliver probably won't remember it. One year of being parents, seeing our little man growing, evolving and getting cuter every day. As tired as we are from middle of the night and early morning wake ups, every day for the past year, this is the most amazing experience we've been through. Seeing a human first time sitting, crawling, teething, walking, swimming, smiling, laughing, singing... One thing is sure is that it makes us think about our own parents and what they went through to raise us. Love you papa & maman, mom & dad.
